Magic Starfish is a creative
tie dyeing business based in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia. All
our clothing and accessories are made using
sweatshop free, fair trade & fair labour principles.
We choose organic cotton, hemp, and bamboo fabrics when ever possible.
At Magic Starfish we seek out the most
environmentally friendly, child safe, fade resistant dyes available, with all the water used in the dyeing
process being
recycled. We try to ensure that all aspects of our business are based on
environmentally sustainable practices.

The range is designed to have longevity and sustainability through choosing the best fabric and dyes to give you a quality product which will last beyond the latest fashion trend. At Magic Starfish we are continuing to research and develop our products and are excited by the transformations occurring in the textile industry. We envision an expansion of Australian made sustainable textiles becoming available in the coming years.
How Magic Starfish began:
Jacqueline and Kimberlie are parents of three amazing primary school age boys. We did not want their children wearing clothing featuring skulls or advertising slogans. Like many environmentally aware parents who wish to dress their children in organic clothing we were presented with a bland palate to choose from. We answered the challenge by tie dyeing clothing in intricate patterns and bright beautiful colours. These tie dyed t-shirts soon became our children's favourites, with their friends asking their parents to buy them some too!
Autumn 2007 saw Magic Starfish hold our first market stall at the Artisan's Market at Linuwel School. It was a stunning success, with children changing into their t-shirts even before leaving the stall! The range soon expanded to include dresses, skirts, bed linen, aprons, tea-towels, play cloths and sarongs.
Children love to choose the bright, beautiful colours and exciting patterns which help them express their personality. Parents love their children being seen easily in a crowd when wearing their tie dyes; they also love the practicality of a colourful patterned t-shirt as apposed to a plain, neutral t-shirt! Demand was such that we have created a website so that you can purchase Magic Starfish creations all year round no matter where you live.
Our Background:
Jacqueline and Kimberlie
are the team behind Magic Starfish. We have
had similar but separate journeys which led us to become actively involved in the
spiritual, artistic, environmental, and social justice movements. Jacqueline is a qualified
practitioner of natural medicine and Kimberlie is a
qualified Reiki master, Tai Chi Chuan instructor and metaphysical counsellor.
Following the birth of our children our passion for expressing creativity through art and crafts
has led us to research the influence of
colour, especially its effect on children.
We knew that our backgrounds and spiritual beliefs would define the way we do business, therefore Magic Starfish is founded on humanitarian and environmental considerations. Through our husbands strong business development support and a lot of persistence we have been able to put our beliefs into practice. Magic Starfish is actively encouraging suppliers to deliver made in Australia, organic, sweatshop free clothing, with positive results.
